What a super weekend we had!!! We had a dear friends 8th birthday party on Saturday, we still managed Salamanca with Marty running the stall and being pretty much awesome, then Sunday was our Oskar's 8th birthday party!! Woot woot he had a ball as did his amazing friends!!!
Then Monday was his actual birthday - he got a wickedly hot BMX and we have been riding each day after school.
Plus our oldest started his first shifts at his new job!! Another awesome kid!!!
Continue enjoying the week and soaking up all the sunshine we have been getting!!

We have a board in our kitchen on the pantry door- the kids and Marty and I like to take turns in writing up happy thoughts, funny jokes and nice thought provoking quotes.

It keeps us all involved and brings up talking topics and long discussions that can be very amusing at times as miss 10 and master 7 grasp at the 'real meaning' tehe and very interesting at the individual meanings and thoughts on them all!!

I love it- it's just a simple little idea that keeps us all united kind of- one day we had "put a little happiness in every day" and the first thing Oskar asked me on the way home after school was - what was your little bit of happiness today mum?

This weekend will be filled with some fun market stuff- Saturday at Salamanca St Davids Park end- some new things available including some cute cord pinny styles dreeses and tops in autumn colours!!

I think the boys may just be in charge for a bit again- while I try to get some more new stuff finished at home.

Then Sunday {our family day}, I LOVE Sundays, will be completing Indy's room by putting it all back together and hanging the curtains, sorting cushions, arranging furniture etc- yippee cant wait to see it all complete!! [Will post some pics when all done I promise]

And then Indy and I will be busy making things for her party next weekend- a girls morning tea at my hubby's cafe!! Fun Fun- and first up will be designing the menu, sorting the table layout and decorations and making some tissue paper pom poms- I think these are so cute!!!

.....I have been looking back over past pics- and it is very clear to us that our little Indy has always had a love of all things french...right from when she was a very little girl she has repeatedly asked me to take her to Paris- an adventure I can not wait to take with her -one day!!

Until then we will continue with our "french inspirations" such as her new room theme...a complete room make over based on antique white with hints of black, pink and all things parisian, I will pop pics up when it is all complete promise.

A long time no posts……I know I have been absent from the blog for a while well since Australia Day…how quickly this year has flown already. Where to start well a long story short…. kids are back at school and all settled in, I have started a new job and am all settled in, I have had a few hiccups health wise but all is settling life has been its usual crazy busy self, speaking of which I am really really hoping that everything continues to smooth out and become just a little less challenging!!

Anyhow, I have begun working more on some new ideas and making some fun new stuff- I really enjoy this side of developing new stuff and must admit can get a little disheartened when I am just producing to replace stock- as exciting as it is that my goodies are selling!! If you know what I mean…

Oh but quickly a thank you to the sweet lady who came and saw me at Salamanca a few weeks back to remind me that some people do read my blog and that I was missed- it was very nice to hear indeed. Also a big thank you to Amber for her sweet kind feedback to a big custom order that was well recieved– very kind indeed!!
We are back at Salamanca tomorrow near the silo’s lawn area, please pray for warm non rainy and non windy weather!!

Happy Australia Day everyone!!

We are lucky enough to have some wonderful friends who really love to celebrate Australia Day each year- there is the usual BBQ, beach environment ( a shack, {which is an architecturally designed home} right onto the beach at dodges ferry), they organise themed games for the kiddies, and we all contribute and have an absolutley fantastic day!!!!

We cant wait!!!!! Just need work to be over for the day and we are high tailing it down!!!

A sweet little break!!

Hello all- I hope you are all very well!

We have enjoyed a very nice break from things over here at Silver Nutmeg Designs HQ- I hope you have too!

My thoughts and prayers are with all of those who have been affected by the floods around the country particulary in QLD- where a lot of my relatives are at the moment!!

It is so heart warming to see all that the online community is doing to help!! We as a family have decided to donate via both our bank and at our local Coles supermarket.

I have some fun things keeping me very busy at the moment, as well as two children on school holidays and one child moving house, however I have some really, really exciting plans for where to take silver nutmeg designs for 2011- more on that later I promise.

For a couple of sweet, sweet ladies who are waiting on their orders to be delivered I promise they are not far away- I had a small health hiccup that also put a bit of a hold on progress- however I am sure that has passed and I am now on the mend!!

A New year means new plans, new ideas, new fun, new things to be discovered!!

I have always loved the idea of a new year- a clean slate to start a fresh with or just bring new ideas to the old plan. It always seems so exciting and full of promise and dreams!!!

The past week or so has been delightful here at silver nutmeg HQ- we have had the best time with family and friends and I feel truly blessed and SO very lucky for having such amazing awesome people in my life!!

A few quick pics of some stuff at our place- as I want to get back to kiddies and teach Indy how to finger knit.

Funny note too:: after a Christmas night get together with an awesome bunch of folks- we got on to the topic of what we used to do as kids and part of this was string style origami I guess : you know about a meter of wool tied up into a loop and then you use your fingers and thumbs to make "rocket", whiskers, bridge, Eiffel tower, cup and saucer, parachute etc.... any how my kids have spent the past 4 days between mastering all these and playing basket ball- loving it old school style!!! New Years is teaching them "elastics"!!

a good weekend- an up and down Monday.

Saturday was salamanca- an awesome day- a little crazy weather wise, but I had great neighbours for company, great shoppers, ace visitors, plus my Oskar stayed ALL day with me!!

I got some more christmas shopping done including an awesome hiragii t shirt for Oskar, and 2 little gingerbread kits for the kiddies to make next week once holidays have started!!

Then Sunday was filled with dancing and singing and costumes and hair being made up and make up and lots of little girls all excited and nervous all at once and one or two stressed mums trying to get it all perfect!! ha-ha

Indy was a dream so well behaved and loved her make up- no surprise there really- and did so well even completing her solo flawlessly!!! Not bad for a little lady who only started dancing again 6 months ago!! (Yep I was just a little proud and felt so sick with nerves for her before each of her 5 performances!!)

The concert was a blast and all of the girls did really really well!!

Then today was supposed to be filled with sewing but instead was a little chrissy shopping then I was struck down by a truly horrid migraine so have spent the day trying to recover in bed whilst giving direction to the rest of the family who are also home- Oskar has what looks like chicken pox the second time around, Indy a spained/sore knee from dancing and Marty trying to enjoy his "day off"!!

Any how wish me luck and if you have any spare please send your positive thoughts my way as I have a rather tricky day to unfold at "work" tomorrow to find out my near future.....no doubt where this head issue has come from!!

Onwards and upwards I always say!!

Edit note: I also just received a call from my Aunty who lives in WA to let me know that my Uncle passed away this morning and she needs to get hold of my mum- has been about 15 years since I last spoke with or saw her. Very sad- RIP Billy Kolos.

Christmas just seems to have sprung up so quickly this year- I don't know what it is but it just feels like it is going to involve SO much more effort this year- maybe it is just me and a result of my on going health dilemmas hmm maybe I am just getting older who knows- BUT I still ♥ Christmas and all the excitement that comes with it and I ♥ making it a special magical time for my kids and little family.

The kids have written out their letter to santa and all the cards for their classmates and teachers - now just need to put together presents for school teachers, best friends, dancing teachers...

I just think that the more simple it is the better and that nanna naps may be a must have requirement of the day followed by a nice lazy day on boxing day!!

Oh and if someone can come and clean and do my usual pre christmas de-clutter of all rooms in my house and sort the laundry and re paint indy's room and re sort and remove items from my wardrobe for vinnies and help the kids do their usual pre christmas pressies sort of what pre loved toys and books to give to vinnies THAT would SO awesome!!!!! There has to be a magical fairy out there who would love that job doesn't there???

Any how I have more stuff to do and more lists to write.....so enjoy the night everyone and I'll pop back in soon when I have forgotten what it is that I am supposed to be writing lists about...

Hi everyone- just a quick update to let everyone who are waiting for delivery of their orders know that after a rather hectic weekend- 2 x markets and an 18th birthday - the next lot are "good to go" and will be posted out tomorrow when I am able to return to my little silver nutmeg business!!

I also work part time in another role and sometimes this has to take priority when deploying my time :(

AND the great news is that just about all of the new orders are just about complete- bar one or two little red buttons, and will get into the post by the end of the week!! YAH!!!! there are some really cute new designs I have made up too will pop up some pics soon.

I got a cool white Moose also- love it!!

Another item I bought from Domayne in Melbourne- I do love lots of the cool stuff this shop has!!

Today was a production line at the overlocker followed by the ironing station- next step is they sewing machine then elastic threading and hand sewing of button eye- phew..

Skirts just after having their appliques heat secured ready to be individually machine stitched

Lot of strips all ironed ready to be attached

Some finished products ready for the mail man!!

Over the next few days I need to complete these skirts, make more slip dresses, finish a baby quilt, complete more hair sets, make more bibs, and get ready for a double whammy market weekend!!

We are back home from such a wonderful trip to Melbourne, firstly for Mathilda's market which was awesome!!

Then we had some free time to enjoy a nice family holiday and a bit of shopping!!

We did some of the touristy things for the kids, aquarium- Indy & Oskar love going here and Oskar is studying ocean creatures at school at the moment so it was great for his research on his little project on hermit crabs!!

We went up Eureka tower and out on the Edge!! Heaps of fun.
We travelled over on Spirit of Tas I and came back on Spirit of Tas II
Lots of time walking through the majestic city of Melbourne
A few visits to shopping centers and shopping towns

Spent time hanging out in the sunshine in great parks and cool little cafe's.
All in all we had a ball!!!!

Ghastly headaches and craftiness creating

The most horrid migraine hit me yesterday morning and proceeded to devour me for the whole day and night even in the induced sleep I had {thanks to medication} I dreamt about how much my head was hurting.

So this morning when the birds started chirping and the sun shone through the bedroom windows, normally something I LOVE waking up to, all I wanted to do was curl into a ball and stay in bed, (above), and maybe later on look at pretty pictures, (below), no reading of words due to inability to focus on small things.

But the littlies and the husband required some help getting ready for school, finding the sports uniform, even though it was where it is always kept once washed and ironed under the stairs in the closet, making lunches and helping find some fruit to take for morning tea fruit break, even though it was sitting in the fridge ready to go, and the brushing and plating of little Indy's hair even though she is quite capable of making it look gorgeous all on her own, and the helping with keeping the early morning routine running smoothly rather than every one ending up treading on each others toes and being grumpy with each other which often is the result if someone, (mum), isn't there carefully guiding it all along......

So I took more medication and stayed up and started working through a pile of little person onesies and singlets that need completing before we head to Melbourne next week- next week aarrgghh!!!

There was also some button production completed- small sitting down tasks that didn't take much of a thought process worked well today!

Now just to manage this migraine away......once mine have broken through they tend to hang about for a while not at all what one wants!!!

Anyhow I am back at "work" tomorrow so please callers be kind to me and everyone else enjoy your day!!

More little lady skirts a what a hoot range- @ salamanca tomorrow.

My mum lent me her wizz bang over-locker- fully computerized with about 20 extra feet?? It took me the best part of the morning last week to learn how to operate it- well probably a good few moments of too scared to touch maybe??- but alas I bit the bullet and set to town and this machine is AMAZING!! I think there will be tears when I have to return it when my new one arrives in store :(

Thanks Mum for letting me borrow this to get on with my orders in the mean time !!

Indy has started making some really cool little softies- I was supposed to finish some for tomorrow but time got away from me so ready for next week I promise sweet!!

Oh I had better mention also Oskar scored his first goal at futsal tonight- well done little man!!

Yah to another fun and packed full of busy days weekend!!

Salamanca was a blast - lots of people and so many nice chats with some really cool people from lots of different places!!

Still lots of Christmas shopping going on- I have lots of fun christmas "stuff" I am working on and will hopefully have ready for the next few markets we are at.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by and for helping support our little business- it really is nice to meet lots of the little ladies who will be venturing out in little lady sweet birdie skirts in the near future!!

A huge thanks to my 2 helpers for the days - I dont think I would have made it through without you guys!!

And thank you to the weather gods for holding off on the wind and rain till right smack on

3 pm!!

The rest of the weekend was pretty much filled up with basket ball and nanna naps!! Indy had a basket ball tournament on at Kingston sports centre with 3 games on saturday the last one at 7 pm!!

And the first one Sunday at 10am!!

So even though today was supposed to be a day of busy busy sewing - instead I went supply shopping- that bit HAD to be done- and op-shopping and really just playing around not a lot of sewing .... hmm means Thursday Friday will be FLAT OUT!!!

I did help my eldest get his resume up to scratch for an interview tomorrow- really exciting stuff - I so hope it all goes well for him such an amazing opportunity!!!

Any how I have work for the next two days so please post lots of cool inspiring stuff for me to check out- hehe

This is my dinning table.....such a great spot for sewing as I have everything close, kitchen, outdoors through the sliding doors for fresh air on a sunny day, perfect light with heaps of daylight, lots of room, 8 seater square table, easy sweep floor for all those threads and off cuts, & kitchen tv for watching morning shows whilst cutting and sewing- I know pretty lame but helps me relax into me sewing particularly when Pip from Meet me at Mikes is on!!.

Thank you to everyone who dropped by at Salamanca today - it was SO great to see lots of our fav customers, friends and fellow stall holders.

Thank you also to all of the new people we had the pleasure of meeting today- so many tales of travels and gifts going interstate and over seas very exciting- and also surprisingly- { only cos I always leave it all to the last minute even though I swear every year it will be different} - lots of people getting their Christmas shopping all sorted- some even had lists they were ticking off- Indy & I were suitably impressed!!

Thanks also to my wonderful Hubby who helped me set up and pack up and my 2 little helpers through out the day- also to my oldest who stopped by as a surprise with his flat mate and helped man the stall whilst I ran off to the ladies!!!

A great day all round - at one stage it even looked like it was snowing with all the flat seeds? falling from the HUGE trees in near by St David's Park it was very pretty.

Funny how things pan out in life- I started out doing markets at Salamanca about 15 years ago with my gorgoeus sister - I LOVED it then & I must say I still LOVE it- salamanca truley has such a unique awesome vibe to it - so much fun to meet and greet so many local people plus visitors to our state. I am so happy to be a part of it all over again!!

Any how I am now off to put my feet up and write some lists about what I need to get sorted for some custom orders and stock replenishing, have fun ~ C xo

Our little Indy many moons ago with her first year of speech would quote every time the sun came out- "sunny day dad" with such joy in her voice!!

This has stuck now and is ALWAYS quoted by one of us as soon as we see the sun shine on a day such as the one Hobart has had today!!!

Today Oskar went to "work" with his dad - something that has evolved after Indy helping me at markets over 2010 - they have treated it as a way to "work" {and eat lots of goodies, and have plenty of hot chocolates & fizzy spider drinks & cupcakes and hot cooked breakfasts} and to "earn" some pocket money for a trip interstate in November. Hey I'm all for fun learning!!

So Indy and I hung out at home- slept in- woohoo, and had a late girls breakie together then she did some hand sewing making a little sparrow whilst I completed some more summer silver nutmeg little ladies dresses and skirts for upcoming markets.

Any how I have to work tomorrow so am off to organise the kids as they have a student free day- am a little sad as normally I would be home tomorrow also- with 26 degrees expected- but now won't be as I have training at work :(

This is something I have had out ready for a quiet moment for me to start stitching....hmm that was about 4 months ago- so my plans are to take some time and quietly- or not so quietly depending on how well it goes for me ahem- and stitch this one followed by many others - always the optimist!!

What an amazing weekend we have had in Hobart weather wise!!!

In my case I think it was just what the doctor ordered to pep up my spirits and and adorn me in so much inspiration again!!!!

We have had wonderful get together's with family and friends- so much fun!!!

Today we all went for a walk and run again- lots of fun to do this as a family- of course there are moments of slow down, wait for me, let me be first on the track, my legs hurt......as per usual however these are now slowly starting to be replaced with lots of chatting and talk between parents and children, a different chatting to usual home chatting- it is really nice and also so very informative!!

Indy also had a special weekend dancing class - she has been asking if she could join the champion group that her teacher had asked her to be a part of- after a bit of "thinking" it over we decided if she wants to do it then we will support her- she then agreed to do a solo lesson as well- both held on Saturday!! hmmm...

Then it was playing in the garden for me, Marty has started boxing training a family friend 18 year old so they went off and did that, a bit of basketball shooting and a little bit more whinging from my 7 year old- think he is a little of tired.

He has always run and kicked and played until he crashes basically and I think this awesome weekend for us all will hopefully result in a great nights sleep for us all!!

Anyhow I best head of and iron the uniforms- Marty is cooking tea and it smells YUMMY!!!

Oh plenty of new ideas and plans getting written in my book of inspiration so I will hopefully make a start on some new cool projects this week.

a day like that

today has been weird- I SO want to do stuff- fun stuff, new stuff not boring old stuff!! One of those days I think- perhaps tonight might be time for some new lists.....that's if I can kill this headache thats has been brewing for a few days darn headaches!!!!

Think the head issue might be related to the weather- above is the view from the balcony off my bedroom brrr.

And below is looking down from there into my front overgrown garden !!

My fav wall in the house with lots of the family shots on there!! It has done well as the long hall is often used as a footy field, cricket pitch, dancing strip, and of late a basketball area???

My white towel corner in the down stairs bathroom- aka the kids bathroom!! All white towels are a bliss use them and then just bleach them all and they always look so fresh!!

I wasn't sure wether to add this one or not as it is my very messy half renovated kitchen!! hehe BUT i do love my stove it is bliss!!

a new order just about finished just needs a nice vintage white button eye!!

a pile of fabrics I am playing with for a new order for a little baby girls quilt....still playing just cant seem to make any decisive decisions this week? Must be the head?

Any how I am off out and about now so enjoy the day everyone!!

We have all had SO much fun this last weekend!!

The kids all had a ball Oskar was 7 on the day of the party- Nell & Isla were both 7 within the last 10 days!!!

60 odd children and their parents - most stayed to join in the fun- a HUGE thank you to everyone involved for making this such an awesome event!!

Today was such a great day!!!

Magnolia's in bloom- had to borrow some from front garden to brighten my dinning table!!

Fresh Hellieborus for the bathroom & kitchen window sill - love these they always make everything so cheerful!!

Then spent day helping hubby stocktake and set up some cool new display's at his store- very excited with how its all looking!!! Will post more pics tomorrow-

Back to "work" for a couple of days the my holidays start and I have plenty planned!!!

I have so many sewing things for me and home that I want to get finished.....so that will be my first step dragging them all back out and deciding which one to go with first- knowing me I will probably sit and look at them for a day or so and then decide to start something completely new tehe!!!

And I have the wonderful Rosie from the Fox and the bowerbird printing some more fabric for me- YIPPEE!!!!

Surely the excitement of collecting that later in the week will get me through the next few days at work!!

The Barn Market Friday night- it was a wild wild night!!

Saturday brought sunshine and plenty of happy people!!

Sunday we were in Melbourne set up ready to go at Mathilda's in Hawthorn- it was a fantastic day with plenty of sales and a sea of mums, prams and little people!!

Thanks so much to my awesome sister for all her help and for being my taxi driver for the wkd!! and to our birthday neighbor Rosie from Notions - was SO good to have you keeping me company!!

Now back in Tassie a week back at work- and much work to be done on new orders, online store, and replenishing stock for upcoming markets!!!

What a perfect way to recover from a big night- some cutting and sewing and the results about 30 more little lady snap purses!!
We have a super busy week ahead of us here at silver nutmeg head quarters this week including:

sewing up a storm of new products for this wkds markets
proofing and hopefully receiving our new logo
developing our new catalogue
finalising and launching our much asked after online store
catching up with some dear friends
organising the children for the wkd
a few still secret things
and another visit to the dentist to get my stitches out - woohoo!!

Now depending on my motivation and energy levels this week will determine just how much of this list gets completed....wish me luck!! What has everyone else got planned?

This year Marty's birthday fell on Friday the 13th so earlier in the year we all decided to make a night of it and celebrate with a horror themed birthday!!
And it was a blast with everyone making the most amazing efforts with dressing up !! We truly had an awesome night filled with many laughs indeed!! The only regret - not enough photo's taken of everyone!!

since being back we have also been busy putting some time back into our home as a result we have a bright red door again and have given down stairs white walls a fresh new coat as well as replacing some tiles in the entrance- yep they are now white also and although a little tired I am very happy with the results- oh and I love this bedroom...I could relax very easily in here

We went to the Zoo- always a fav for us, lots of shopping nice cafe lunches, visits to some special little shops, the football in the hail!!, and some great catching up with family- it really was a wonderful trip!

My dad had one of these when my I was a little girl- and I remember my sister and I eagerly playing "offices" on it and feeling oh so grown up in our handmade, with love from mum, a-line denim skirts with applique and our knee high boots!! Hmm yes perhaps not a lot has really changed??!!

I have spent the day so far thinking about all of the sewing I need of do for upcoming markets- a lot of my new range of vintage inspired little lady tunics sold and were a big hit at mathilda's last saturday and now need replacing- sometime this thinking just has to be done- and lots of it - so I think I will continue with it and leave any sewing until later in the week!

I also have some patterns to create from my drawings- however I think my thinking is still needed on those as well- think I could do with a nice hot drink now and a cosy couch blanket.

After deciding to have an extra 20 mins sleep- I was tired ok- up we got packed the car and headed in- unpacked set up and had a look around!

Thanks to my gorgeous Indy-- who is now sleeping- for all of her help I really don't think the market scene would be the same without her there!!

And a huge thank you goes out to my friend Jacque who came and picked Indy up and took her to soccer and brought her back AND then bought some goodies of me- thanks so much Jac!!

Although the day seemed much quieter than last Mathilda's in March surprisingly enough went I got home and tallied it all up it was a really good day!!!

Thank you Robyn for being so wonderful all day and greeting and welcoming all of our customers, I look forward to seeing you soon!

Then it was a quick pack up and trip down to Salamanca to pick up this!!!

HOW AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is easing himself in to his new surroundings- I don't think he completely trusts us yet and has been quietly conveying the place since he got here- he even made his way into some cupboards??

And then yes proof of his world domination ideals here- perhaps he has decided he is no longer in hostile territory? Although he is still remaining to be a little unresponsive- we'll see how the night goes.

However I have warned everyone just don't stare at him for too long because it is a well known fact that if you stare at an Occupational Force for too long 9 times out of 10 they will attack you.....
